How does Nutrient Solution Temperature affect pH?

Temperature is a key plant health fundamental, as it plays a pivotal role in your plants’ growth rate and structure.

Sometimes you’ll be taking a cold probe and putting it into a warmer nutrient solution. If this is the case, leave the probe in the solution for 5 minutes before taking the measurement. This ensures the probe compensates for the correct temperature. You may need to do this regularly in winter.

Measuring the temperature of your nutrient solution is important. If it’s too warm, this could lead to oxygen deficiency and root infection. If it’s too cold; this could shock the roots, which may hinder plant growth. A solution temperature of 18-22°C (65-72°F) is recommended.

Remember... regular cleaning, hydration and calibration will keep your pH tools accurate.
